Wearing Many Hats with Grace: Balancing Faith, Leadership, and Personal Identity (God Speaks in the Mundane 43)

๐’€๐’†๐’”๐’•๐’†๐’“๐’…๐’‚๐’š was Sunday – I stood before the congregation, preaching Godโ€™s Word with reverence and responsibility.

๐‘ป๐’๐’…๐’‚๐’š, I was in the boardroom, working on strategy and structure, discharging my duty.

๐‘ฌ๐’—๐’†๐’“๐’š ๐’…๐’‚๐’š, I wear a lot of hats: husband, father, mentor, brother, and friend. I have a several responsibilities and multiple accountabilities.

During my lunch break, I stopped and thought,
– How do I wear more than one hat without wearing the wrong one for a role?
– How can I handle so much without it breaking me?
– Is there a multipurpose hat adaptable to every role?

๐‚๐ฅ๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ซ๐จ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ
I remember a while back, standing in front of a classroom as a lecturer. I was trying to explain a visual idea and meant to say,
“๐‘ฐ๐’ ๐’•๐’‰๐’‚๐’• ๐’‘๐’Š๐’„๐’•๐’–๐’“๐’†…” But out slipped the words, โ€œ๐‘ฐ๐’ ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐‘บ๐’„๐’“๐’Š๐’‘๐’•๐’–๐’“๐’†๐’”โ€ฆโ€

I thought it was funny that I got it wrong, but it stuck with me.

Even in the classroom, Scripture was my anchor. It was like God was telling me that He is my foundation no matter where I am: in the pulpit, in the classroom, in the boardroom, or on the playground.

The truth is, Iโ€™m not a preacher. Or an executive. Or a father. I am all of those things and even more.

My identity is not in the hats I wear.
Itโ€™s in the ๐’„๐’๐’—๐’†๐’“๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ฐ ๐’„๐’‚๐’“๐’“๐’š.
