God Speaks in the Mundane 40: Embracing Growth, Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone, and Faith for Change

The other day, I decided to take the day off and spend some quality time with my kids at a theme park. It was a day of laughter, discovery, and reflection. Yet, I found myself wondering:

One moment, in particular, stood out. My youngest child hesitated to try new play areas, even though they were marked as suitable for her age. Her sibling called out enthusiastically, encouraging her to join, but she clung to the play zone sheโ€™d enjoyed last year. Even though she had outgrown it, she insisted,

I saw myself in her hesitation. Isnโ€™t this often how we navigate life? Resorting to whatโ€™s familiar and comfortable, even when weโ€™ve outgrown it?

* ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐…๐š๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐š๐ซ ๐…๐ž๐ž๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐’๐š๐Ÿ๐ž: The new play area represented change, a step into the unknown. And letโ€™s face it, growth and change are often intimidating. Staying in our comfort zones feels safer, but it also keeps us from reaching new heights.
* ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐™๐จ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ ๐‚๐š๐ง ๐๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐†๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ก ๐™๐จ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ: I gently reminded her that last year, she had been equally hesitant about the area she now found so familiar. It was only through trying that she came to enjoy it. Isnโ€™t that true of lifeโ€™s milestones? ๐‘ฌ๐’—๐’†๐’“๐’š ๐’ˆ๐’“๐’๐’˜๐’•๐’‰ ๐’›๐’๐’๐’† ๐’˜๐’‚๐’” ๐’๐’๐’„๐’† ๐’‚ ๐’„๐’๐’Ž๐’‡๐’๐’“๐’• ๐’›๐’๐’๐’†, ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐’†๐’—๐’†๐’“๐’š ๐’„๐’๐’Ž๐’‡๐’๐’“๐’• ๐’›๐’๐’๐’† ๐’”๐’•๐’‚๐’“๐’•๐’” ๐’‚๐’” ๐’‚๐’ ๐’–๐’๐’‡๐’‚๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’‚๐’“ ๐’„๐’‰๐’‚๐’๐’๐’†๐’๐’ˆ๐’†.
* ๐…๐š๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐‚๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐”๐ฌ ๐๐ž๐ฒ๐จ๐ง๐: This reminded me of Godโ€™s call to Abraham in Genesis 12:1; โ€œGo from your country, your people and your fatherโ€™s household to the land I will show you.โ€ Faith often asks us to leave the comfortable and step into the uncertain, trusting that God has something greater in store.

By the end of our time at the park, my child cautiously ventured into the new area. Her laughter was louder, her confidence visibly growing. It was a small victory, but one that spoke volumes.

As adults, weโ€™re no different. Whether itโ€™s a new job, a deeper level of faith, or healing from past wounds, we often cling to the known, even when it no longer serves us.

But God gently beckons us:
So, hereโ€™s my reflection for today:

Letโ€™s embrace growth, even when it feels scary. The most beautiful experiences often lie just outside our comfort zones.
